Three foreign companies have shown their eagerness to launch electric car assembly in Bulgaria, said Yulian Nikolov, head of the economic policy department at the Economy Ministry.
Specifically, a Russian investor has displayed its interest in abandoned production facilities in Plovdiv, earlier a site for production of trucks, which will be used for assembling share taxi vehicles and electric buses.
In addition, a French company has pledged its willingness to kick off electric car production in the city of Stara Zagora, southern Bulgaria.
Nikolov, however, declined to name the potential investors following their request, stating only that talks with the firms were at an advanced stage.
The third company keen to invest in Bulgaria, Chinese sport utility vehicle manufacturer Great Wall Motor Co, is expected to put on stream its car plant near the northern town of Lovech in 2011.
Along with vehicles with conventional engines, the company is anticipated to launch electric car production at the site.(Dnevnik)
